The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and
most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The
BSA provides a program for young people that builds character,
trains them in the responsibilities of participating
citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
For a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of
this country by combining educational activities and lifelong
values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes ? and,
through nearly a century of experience, knows ? that helping
youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible,
and productive society.

Special
Announcement
On behalf of Moore District's Key 3, it is
with great pleasure that we can announce that Moore District
achieved Centennial Quality District for 2010. Thank you
to all of the Leaders, scouts and parents for doing your part to
help make Moore District a Top Performing District of the
Occoneechee Council.
Are you interested in
learning about or joining Scouting?
The BSA has a range of Scouting programs for
you and your son or daughter. We have a web page for each
program - use the links below, or click on one of the links to go to these pages:
Cub Scouts a family-oriented program designed specifically
to address the needs of younger boys in first through fifth
grades.
Boy Scouts is for boys age 11 through age 18 (or at least
10? and completed fifth grade), designed to achieve the aims
of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group
leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster.
Venturing and
Exploring are for boys and girls
ages 14 through 20 (or age 13 and completed eighth
grade). Venturing provides positive experiences through
exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help members
pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and
develop leadership skills. Exploring is a career- or
vocation-oriented program, with each post specializing in a
specific field.

What is Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting is the annual campaign where
the Occoneechee Council asks Scouting families, businesses and
civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing the
Scouting program to tens of thousands of young people in our
Council.
Why should I give to Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting provides roughly one third of
the money needed to operate the Occoneechee Council's Scouting
camps, programs and facilities for a calendar year. These camping
and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts
have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men
and women. The Council spends approximately $120 per Scout each year
to deliver these benefits and much more.
